Dear Shareholders,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to present to you Société Générale De Banque - Jordanie's annual report and its financial statements for the year ending 31/12/2008.
Year 2008 witnessed major economic changes in terms of the vast growth that was achieved in the main economies in the first half of the year, which was the result of regional commercial flows, followed by a drop in the second half of the year as a result of the international financial crisis which affected all economies around the world.
As for Société Générale De Banque - Jordanie (SGBJ), it managed to rely heavily on Société Générale’s well - established name at a time when the trust in the big financial institutions was vulnerable, yet SGBJ managed to overcome the crisis with outstanding results. During 2008, the Bank achieved high growth levels in most of its financial indicators; Gross income increased by 38%, moreover after tax profits percentage increased by 82%. On the other side, the Bank did not spare any efforts in activating its contributions that aim to serve the local community; the bank was keen on supporting all age groups including children, youngsters, as well as the elderly. For the second consecutive year, the Bank offered ten scholarships for the high school graduates in addition to sponsoring various social activities including sponsoring the 13th annual exhibition for Jordan River Foundation, Mahrajan Haretna, as well as Souk JARA.
Moreover, the Bank cooperated with Shams Jordanie which offers care for the elderly. At the end, I would like to congratulate our shareholders for another year of success, and w
