HISTORY

MEIB was established in 1965. In October 1999, SGBL, (a Lebanese affiliate of Société Générale Group), bought 37.5% of its shares with an option to increase its participation up to 51%, and thus the bank became member of Société Générale Group.

Despite the insecure political situation that characterized the last three years, and the negative impact of the Iraqi war, the bank has succeeded, with the support of its prestigious Group in carrying a restructuring strategy that was adapted to the prevailing environment, and taking fundamental steps to ensure the development of its banking and financial activities.

The name was changed to SGBJ (Société Générale de Banque - Jordanie) in March 2003, after the completion of the bank restructuring and reorganization.

This new name is easier to remember and more dynamic, conveys a will to innovate bringing the expertise and know how of two cultures within the values of our group:
